A Complete Summary of All This Twisted Glory (This Woven Kingdom #3) by Tahereh Mafi
Summary of Chapters One to Thirty-Three
This captivating novel weaves a tale of complex relationships, magic, and the battle between destiny and free will, setting the stage for further developments in the journey of Cyrus, Alizeh, and those around them.
In the first part of the novel, the narrative begins with Cyrus of Nara, a prince who renounced his royal title to become a Diviner. In chapters one to four, Cyrus is depicted in a state of panic, running through a dangerous landscape while recalling childhood memories in this area. Flashbacks reveal his life as a Diviner, a role mocked by his royal family. Seeking counsel from a fellow Diviner, Cyrus realizes that the temple will never accept him. The following chapters (five to eight) shift focus to Kamran, the crown prince of Ardunia, who, accompanied by Miss Huda and Deen, travels to Tulan on winged beasts. Consumed by rage and a thirst for revenge against Cyrus for his grandfather’s death, Kamran receives a mysterious unsealed envelope from his old minister, Hazan.
Chapters nine and ten introduce Alizeh, the lost queen of Arya in Tulan, who has been in hiding for eighteen years. Though unprepared for her role, Alizeh faces grave danger. She recalls an intense encounter with Cyrus, involving a fight and passionate confessions. Meanwhile, Cyrus struggles with his feelings for her, leading to chapters eleven and twelve where he deliberately leads her astray. In a moldering cave, Cyrus faces trials and is transported to a purgatory-like realm, encountering the devil, Iblees, who taunts him about his feelings for Alizeh. He also meets his father, chained and tortured, and reflects on his sleeplessness since encountering Alizeh.
In chapters thirteen to sixteen, Alizeh encounters Kamran, who is angered by her perceived betrayal. Hazan arrives and notices Alizeh’s injury, suspecting Cyrus’s involvement. Kamran vows to kill Cyrus, but Alizeh observes the tension, realizing her dependence on Cyrus. Later, as Cyrus and Alizeh fall from a great height, they are saved by a dragon named Kaveh, who mocks Cyrus. Alizeh, seemingly lifeless, is at the brink of death, and Cyrus uses his remaining magic to save her, with Kaveh advising him to either let her die or use her rescue to his advantage in marriage.
Chapters seventeen to eighteen focus on the immediate aftermath of their fall, where Deen, Miss Huda, and Omid show unwavering loyalty to Alizeh, while Kamran is confused by the situation. Sarra, the Queen Mother, arrives, warning of a massive Jinn uprising. Chapters nineteen to twenty further explore Cyrus’s nightmare and Alizeh’s care for him. Kamran reflects on his grandfather’s warnings about those who seek Alizeh. Cyrus reappears, bloodied but alive, and Hazan pledges his loyalty to Alizeh. Tensions rise as Cyrus confronts Kamran, accusing him of withholding the truth about Alizeh’s forced marriage to him due to a blood oath, which Cyrus acknowledges.
Chapter twenty-one takes us back to Cyrus’s youth, training with the Diviner Rostam, learning patience and self-mastery. In chapters twenty-two to twenty-four, Alizeh wakes up after nearly four weeks, poisoned by dark magic. She learns about the Jinn uprising and expresses her desire to address her people. Huda mentions letters from Kamran and Cyrus’s mysterious trips, while Alizeh is shown a field of pink roses created by Cyrus. In a tense exchange, Hazan questions Cyrus’s feelings for Alizeh.
In the second part of the story, chapters twenty-five to twenty-seven focus on Alizeh’s determination to speak to the Jinn despite the concerns of her friends. She insists on going to her people and retrieves her book of prophecies from Kamran. She then visits Cyrus’s study, where she confronts him about their arranged marriage. Cyrus requests twenty minutes with three witnesses before they meet in the library.
Chapters twenty-eight and twenty-nine show Alizeh’s shaken state after her encounter with Cyrus. She gathers Hazan, Kamran, and Huda in the library, where she announces her decision to perform the blood oath that night. Hazan protests vehemently, explaining the severe consequences of the oath. Kamran questions Cyrus’s character, making accusations, but Alizeh defends him, revealing she knows he was tortured by the devil. Cyrus, eager to complete the ordeal, agrees to perform the blood oath that night.
Chapters thirty to thirty-three depict Cyrus walking into the night, torn by his feelings for Alizeh and his hatred for Kamran. He gives Alizeh his coat, and they arrive at a hidden cottage filled with magical items. Hazan and Kamran explore while Cyrus retrieves something from a locked cabinet. Alizeh watches him, realizing she has underestimated him. The blood oath ceremony begins, with darkness overwhelming Alizeh as Cyrus suffers intensely. Hazan explains the nature of the oath. Cyrus vows to offer his kingdom for Alizeh’s hand in marriage, never to touch her without her consent, and to give his life once his debt to the devil is paid. Alizeh accepts the oath, and as the ceremony concludes, they share a tender moment. Alizeh reveals her intention to uncover the truth about Cyrus and destroy the devil.
