Fourth Wing The Empyrean 1 a Novel by Rebecca Yarros Book Summary
In Fourth Wing, Chapters 1-10 introduce Violet Sorrengail, who defies her mother’s wishes by joining the brutal Riders Quadrant of Basgiath War College instead of the Scribe Quadrant. As she navigates this challenging environment, Violet faces intense prejudice, dangerous trials, such as crossing the parapet, and grueling training alongside her fellow first-year cadets.
In Chapters 11-20, the narrative builds toward Threshing, a pivotal event where first-year cadets bond with dragons. In an extraordinary turn of events, Violet bonds with not one but two dragons, Tairn and Andarna. This rare occurrence disrupts the norm and sparks suspicion, fear, and resentment among her peers, particularly those who have not yet formed a bond with a dragon.
As the story progresses into Chapters 21-30, Violet grapples with her new identity as a rider, confronting hostility from others and enduring rigorous training that challenges her worthiness. During this time, she also begins to uncover secrets within the Riders Quadrant, including a clandestine group known as the “marked ones,” which is led by the enigmatic wingleader Xaden Riorson.
In the climax of the narrative, Chapters 31-39 heighten the stakes as Violet and her fellow riders are deployed to the eastern border. Here, they encounter a hidden threat posed by the venin—humans corrupted by dark magic who can create dragon-like wyverns. These perilous events not only test Violet’s skills and loyalty but also deepen her evolving relationship with Xaden.
