Fugitive Telemetry The Murderbot Diaries 6 A Novel by Martha Wells Book Summary
Chapter 1
A human is found dead at Preservation Station. Murderbot determines that the human has been dead for four hours. Station Security requests its help in the investigation.
Chapter 2
Murderbot and Station Security investigate the crime scene. Murderbot analyzes forensic data and realizes the perpetrator used a cleaning field to remove contact DNA. It also determines that the deceased was likely killed somewhere else and the body was moved.
Chapter 3
Murderbot follows up on a lead at the station hostel and determines that the deceased, Lutran, is a registered guest. It discovers a scarf in the room that matches Lutran’s clothing, providing an identification.
Chapter 4
Murderbot uses the station feed to contact the ships in the dock. It discovers that one transport is not responding to pings. It asks its friends Ratthi and Gurathin to help it investigate the transport. They discover Lutran’s body and evidence that he was killed on the ship.
Chapter 5
Station Security takes over the crime scene. Murderbot accompanies Investigator Aylen to investigate a cargo ship, the Lalow, because the transport where Lutran was killed had been contracted to pick up cargo from it. They discover that Lalow’s crew has taken the Port Authority supervisor hostage.
Chapter 6
Murderbot subdues the Lalow crew. Station Security discovers that the Lalow is empty; its cargo is missing. They determined that the Lalow was smuggling refugees from a corporate mining operation at BreharWallHan, and the refugees were also missing.
Chapter 7
The station responder locates a ship with a module attached, hiding in the shadow of the colony ship. Murderbot travels to the colony ship to retrieve a life-tender, a small transport designed to get people off a damaged ship. It uses the life-tender to board the hostile ship.
Chapter 8
Murderbot rescues the refugees and sends them to the colony ship in the life-tender. The responder apprehends the hostile ship. Murderbot is shot by one of the refugees. Station Security discovers the perpetrator who murdered Lutran and arranged for the refugees to be taken hostage is a cargo bot named Balin. The bots on Preservation Station identify Balin as an intruder and force it to shut down.
About the Author: Martha Wells
Martha Wells has been a prominent author in the science fiction and fantasy genres since her debut novel was published in 1993.
