Book Summary: Fugitive Telemetry The Murderbot Diaries 6 A Novel by Martha Wells

Fugitive Telemetry The Murderbot Diaries 6

In Fugitive Telemetry The Murderbot Diaries 6, the New York Times bestselling security droid with a heart (though it wouldn’t admit it!) returns for another thrilling adventure. Set on Preservation Station, Murderbot is enjoying its semi-retirement while tasked with protecting Dr. Mensah from the ongoing threat posed by GrayCris.

As it monitors station security feeds and indulges in its favorite media, a human is found dead in the station mall. Station Security requests Murderbot’s assistance in the murder investigation, and while it initially agrees to help to ensure the murder isn’t linked to GrayCris, it soon discovers that the case is more complicated than it anticipated.

The investigation led Murderbot and Station Security to a group of refugees from a corporate mining operation who were being smuggled to safety. When it becomes clear that the refugees are missing and a suspected cargo ship is found empty, Murderbot uncovers a missing module that reveals the horrifying truth: the refugees are trapped on a ship that has taken them hostage. In a daring rescue, Murderbot saves the refugees but is shot in the process.

Together with Station Security, Murderbot works to track down the killer of a victim named Lutran, ultimately discovering that the perpetrator is a reprogrammed cargo bot named Balin, now transformed into a CombatBot.

This standalone adventure continues to showcase the unique blend of action, humor, and humanity that has captivated readers worldwide. As Annalee Newitz describes it, Fugitive Telemetry presents “one of the most humane portraits of a nonhuman I’ve ever read,” solidifying Martha Wells’ status as one of today’s premier science fiction writers. Fans of The Murderbot Diaries series can revisit previous titles, including All Systems Red, Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, and Network Effect, and look forward to the upcoming System Collapse.
