Network Effect A Murderbot Novel The Murderbot Diaries 5

In Network Effect A Murderbot Novel The Murderbot Diaries 5 A Novel by Martha Wells, Murderbot, a sentient security robot, sets out to safeguard Dr. Mensah, its previous employer, at a celebration on the planet Preservation. Even though Murderbot wants to unwind and enjoy media, it has committed to protecting Mensah and her family from possible dangers caused by a rival corporation. During the festival, Murderbot notices a danger towards Amena, Mensah’s daughter, and needs to come up with a quiet way to intervene without alerting Mensah.

After the festival, Murderbot gets a sudden message from ART (Asshole Research Transport), a sentient transportation entity it had become friends with in a previous novella. ART is being threatened by a hostile group called the Targets, who have kidnapped its crew. Partnering with ART, Murderbot endeavors to save the captured crew, but gets captured by the Targets during the rescue mission.

During its captivity, Murderbot discovers that the Targets are settlers from a polluted planet, tainted by a leftover alien presence. This leftover piece has led to strange physical and mental alterations in a few of the settlers. Despite being infected, Murderbot succeeds in disabling the remnant’s control system before it can completely assume control. With help from ART and Murderbot 2.0, a sentient killware they developed jointly, Murderbot effectively saves ART’s crew and flees the colony.

After coming back to Preservation, Murderbot meets up with Dr. Mensah and eventually decides to join ART on a new mission. This exciting addition to The Murderbot Diaries mixes excitement and comedy as it delves into topics of selfhood and relationships.
